"I'm a whole person again!"
Kristen, a registered nurse, suffered for months with excruciating
intractable pain as a result of a condition known as trigeminal neuralgia. She
states that her condition, which involves unbearable facial pain, was a
result of extensive dental surgeries.
An active energetic woman, Kristen teaches nursing at Pasco Hernando
Community College and holds a masters degree in her field, but due to
circumstances beyond her control, unbearable agony threatened to keep the
fullness of her life indefinitely out of her reach. "At one point, I
had undergone almost six months of dental surgery." Due to Kristen's
demanding schedule she was unable to have a treatment plan around drug
therapy.
Manifesting itself in excruciating face pain in the area of the cheek
under the eye, the symptoms trigemenal neuralgia are made worse by cold air
or a draft of any kind. "Any slight breeze would trigger it, and there
were times that I honestly could not get off the pillow," she adds
with a shudder. "It's the worst pain I have ever had, and I was
incapacitated." Needing consummate relief, Kristen went to see Dr.
Kim.
"He was extremely professional, the treatments were calming and
relaxing," she states. After one week of treatments by Dr. Kim, says Kristen,
the pain had dissipated; by the time three months had elapsed, the pain was
gone. " Dr. Kim took the time to listen to my history," she adds,
"and I was treated so courteously." Although she estimates
twenty-five or thirty needles were inserted at the time of her first
treatment, she stresses that they caused no sensation. "And," she
adds, "I'm a whole person once again."
Additionally, several other conditions that plagued her, including a
back problem, were greatly alleviated as a result of the acupuncture. As a
member of the medial profession herself, she was struck by the cleanliness
of the office, and by DR Kim's highly professional manner. "My own doctor
was extremely supportive of my going to DR Kim," she adds. "One
of the things that impressed me most," she goes on the say, "is
that before I went, I expected to see mostly people who were into
alternative medicine. But that just simply wasn't true. The people I saw
there were average local residents, seemingly from all walks of life."
Kristen stresses that the treatments are very relaxing, noting that
often at the end of the sessions she had fallen asleep. "DR Kim gives
you insights about your lifestyle, his knowledge helps you adjust,"
she says warmly, adding, "I was very impressed. DR Kim's serene and
confident nature made me feel I was truly in the hands of a skilled
healer."
Founder of the Korean Acupuncture Clinic in Spring Hill, DR Kim is a
skilled acupuncturist with over 31 years experience. According to Brenda
Kim, his wife and able assistant, referrals of patients come from the
medical community, including neurologists and primary care physicians,
directly to DR Kim. Chiropractors as well, she states, recognize the
validity of acupuncture treatments. And the recognition is far-reaching,
according to Mrs. Kim, with some eleven states now moving to recognize
acupuncture treatments as a valid form of care.
All acupuncturists practicing in the State of Florida must adhere to
strict regulations; in order to practice within the state, acupuncturists
must be licensed by the Department of Business and Professional Regulation,
and their facilities must be approved by H.R.S. Hygienically and professionally
operated establishments are characterized by the strict use of disposable
needles, as well as visibly clean and well-kept surroundings.
Proper communication between doctor and patient is a must to achieve
a total understanding of a patient's medical condition. DR Kim excels here,
as he is fluent in English and has no problem conversing with his patients.
From arthritis and bursitis to neck and back problems and all other
addictions, acupuncture claims wide ranging successes in alleviating human suffering.
And as DR Kim's patients will readily attest, it is a method of treatment
that can greatly enhance the quality of lives. As Arlene Pullen succinctly
states, "It's hard to explain the feeling that you have when you
almost lose everything. But DR Kim gave it all back, and I'm forever
grateful."
DR Andrew H.B. Kim is founder of the Korean Acupuncture Clinic. His
offices are located at 53100 Spring Hill Drive. He may be reached by phone
at 688-8088.
